Street Lights in a Busy City - Taipei, Taiwan Project Overview
With global warming awareness and green initiative, the Taiwan Government was looking for solutions to save energy consumption and reduce carbon dioxide emission. Our manufacturer and some other companies cooperated with Taipei City Hall replaced 52 traditional mercury street lamps with 120W high power LED Street Lamps as an alternative.
The area in which these new LED lights are installed is in one of the most busy and cramped locations in Taipei where massive amounts of people pass through and connect to the center of the Mass Transportation System and business sectors every day. The safety of lighting and durability of physical constructions are extremely important. Especially, given the tropical island climate, Taiwan has to cope with typhoons several months a year, extremely hot and high humidity in the summer and the wet winter. The challenge to provide the products to sustain all these harsh environment became critical.
This is the first LED street lamp replacement project in Taipei. Based on the results, the Government plans to replace all 14,000 street lamps in Taipei in the future. Overall, there will be 1.35 millions LED lamps installed in Taiwan.
After 2 years operation, the effectiveness of lighting still maintains the original brightness and the total energy saving is about 70%.
